Geoffrey Wins Project Fame Season 7

Projetfame7 (1)
Ghana’s Christian and Clement came 3rd and 4th respectively as Nigeria’s Geoffrey Oji won the 7th season of Project Fame over the weekend.

Very few would have guessed the electrifying stage-craft of Nigerian dance queen, Kaffy, and the legendary showing of Sir Shina Peters were a prelude to the crowning of the Benue-born Geoffrey. The big moment was mind-blowing as thousands of audience leaped to their feet in suspense when the exceptional winner was announced.

With the emergence of Geoffrey as the winner of MTN Project Fame Season 7, he is now a member of the prestigious league of exceptional superstars that comprises Iyanya, Chidinma Praiz and more.

As well, the N5m winning prize, an SUV and a recording contract, the journey to greatness lies assuredly within his grasp. Speaking shortly after he was unveiled, the young man was full of appreciation and projection. He said, “Truly, grace has brought me this far; my fans and MTN have been supportive and I can only promise better years ahead”.

Geoffrey has been an extraordinary performer. He stands out for his vocal quality and commands the judges’ respect for being able to deliver almost perfectly every song; he consistently showed mastery and character, traits that astounded Paul ‘Play’ Dairo who described him as a superstar. Some of his many great performances were the renditions of Majek Fashek’s “Genesis”, Tuface’s “Only Me” and Bob Dylan’s “Knocking on Heaven’s Door”.

Sixteen young West African ladies and guys brimming with confidence and raw musical talent had begun a journey to stardom nearly eleven weeks ago. But that journey took a new turn three weeks ago, when Geoffrey, Christian, Emeka, Clement, Daniella, Ruky, Ugo and Debbie earned the viewer’s highest votes to contest for the highest prizes.

Ruky emerged the first runner up and received N3m and a car; Christian emerged the second runner-up with a winning prize of N2m and a car. Clement received N2m for taking the third runner-up position. While the rest of the contestants received between N1m and N5, 000, 000. It was a competition that rewarded all despite their positions.

This season will linger for long in memory, especially among the over the 200 million ardent viewers of Project Fame who watched online and via digital and terrestrial TV stations in Canada, UK, US, Ghana, Cameroon, Sierra Leone, Egypt, South Africa and more.

Interestingly, the telecommunications regulatory body, Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC), was also well represented by heavy weights such as Mr. Peter Adeoye, Dr. Michael Onyia, Alhaji Yusuf Abubakar, Alhaji Muhammed Bintube and Mrs. Biodun Olujimi, who commented that “MTN is obviously empowering the youths through this musical reality show and it’s worthy of commendations”.
